On the Further Testing of Feedbee II

We started the testing of the natural pollen substitute diet for bees called Feedbee on the test station of the Research Institute For Animal Breeding and Nutrition (ATK) Department of Bee-Breeding and Bee-Biology at Gödöllő and at two other apiaries in the spring of 2008 on behalf of Vernalis Bt. (www.feedbee.hu) and the Canadian license owners.

The first part of the article on the results was published in the previous edition of Méhészet (Hungarian beekeeping journal). We continued our testing in 2008 as well with the experimental Feedbee formulations.

Besides continuing the laboratory testing, one of the main aims of the summer ending period and the preparation for winter was to find out if there is any role of the regular protein substitution in the natural resistance capability of bees. For the rating, we took into consideration the varroa-infection of the treated and the control colonies and the presence of chalky pupas.
